In Sands of Time, I was inspired to communicate the majestic beauty of a coastal scene inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the moment. What's not to love about a sunset walk on the beach? My challenge for this painting was to create a harmonious interplay of color, light and shadow across the scene. My Impressionistic brushwork made the reflections in the water glitter with the many sky colors which suggested the movement of the waves. In this studio piece, I focused on painting the effects of the atmospheric conditions of a sunset seen through a sky filled with Saharan dust. I used this prop to express my time on the beach that evening. The textures in the large sand mass created a contrast to water and led back to the two figures taking in the show.
