On Monhegan Island, Maine, I was struck by the view from the top of Light House Hill road. The village below looked inviting being surrounded by water. I surveyed the scene before beginning to paint and saw a surprise green hue in the water between Mañana Island and Monhegan. Nearby and nestled in the landscape, the houses add more variety and interest to the scene. I wanted this Plein air painting to portray the beauty of the water, landscape and village details on a late afternoon day. Given a studio finish.
