Winter Bloom

Rush of the Tide #2 - 22 "x 28" oil on canvas is finally finished. This studio painting was created using my 6"x 8" plein air study as a guide and a few photographs that I had taken on location. To continue my love of all things coral colored, Winter Bloom is a watercolor painting I created based on a variegated flowering maple plant that I kept for years. The specimen was very needy requiring lots and lots of water so it took me awhile to figure out what would make it happy enough to bloom. Finally one winter, delicate salmon colored flowers in all their glory arrived, so I had to paint it. This painting is not for sale but I do have a limited edition giclee prints available for purchase.

Most of my life, I have been attracted to flowering and foliage plants with a special interest in orchids. At my local orchid society monthly meeting, I brought an orchid for judging that I have been caring for the last 4 1/2 years. Happily, I got my first ribbon for a plant that was previously my husband's. My love of orchids compelled me to take over the plant's care. Growing orchids is a pleasant distraction from painting, one that bring great joy in watching them grow and flower. Repeatedly, I have noticed similarities between painting and growing orchids. Both endeavors are huge time hogs and require practice to be successful. They are also interests that require a lifetime of learning. Painting and orchid growing adds beauty to the world and provides hours of enjoyment. My next blog, will have a picture of two of my favorite orchids.
Amusing photo of the month found in my own frypan. Double yolks are somewhat rare and to make a face made me laugh!
