Dianna painted Island at Damariscotta Lake while standing on the dock in Damariscotta, Maine.  It was one of those windy, not windy, sunny, not sunny September days. She assessed the challenge and difficulties in painting an ever changing display of light and water patterns that were different each time the wind blew. She thought about what the final painting might look like, where to begin and how should she proceed. Half way through the painting, another artist pointed out that a giant dock spider, only a few inches away was sharing the deck with them. Dianna has never been fond of spiders, so having a spider so close to her was not the best news. "I was go engrossed in my work that I decided to stay, complete the painting while keeping one eye on the spider. In Island at Damariscotta Lake, Dianna  she inspiration was to paint the light conditions that September day.  A great time was had by all, including the spider!
