Technically, paintings are never truly finished.

Maine Coast
Occasionally after a painting is finished and framed, I discover something about the piece that still bothers me. I may not even know why at the time but eventually I figure it out, take the painting out of the frame and work on it some more. Along the Way 9x12 oil on linen of Marginal Way in Ogunquit, Maine is such a painting. In August of last year, I felt it was complete and this spring I decided it needed more attention. On that note, I guess paintings are never truly finished because as I learn, I often see ways to improve my older paintings. I suspect that is why very famous artists will often seek to purchase earlier works so they can either rework or destroy them. This painting is on view at the Beth Ellis Gallery at the Shore Road Gallery, 294 Shore Road, Ogunquit, Maine.
