To Blog or not to Blog

In the studio, I am still working on my 22x28" enlargement of 'Rush of the Tide' plein air study. I was hoping to have it finished for the March newsletter but with company visiting from up North and shopping for a vehicle that is more appropriate for an art business than a sedan, I have not had time to paint very much! The photo of the water shows my progress to date. I still need to work on my ocean.
I have been sending out an Email Newsletter but I keep reading and hearing that search engines love blogs a lot more than newsletters. My marketing people tell me the same thing so I have been wrestling with to blog or not to blog for months now. I felt that sending a regular newsletter was all I wanted to do because I am a painter not a writer. So of course I started looking at other artist's blogs. What I discovered is that artists blog for a variety of reasons with each translating into a different style and format. Some blogs are long and educational like a class or workshop, some are more informational about the artist's painting endeavors, and some are extremely short consisting of a photo of one artwork and a sentence or two about it. Then I learned that I could send my blog to my email subscribers and the seed of that idea had finally begun to germinate in my head. After another month of thinking about to Blog or Not to Blog, I decided that I should give it a try but my blog might contain other things besides my painting adventures. With that in mind my first photo is of something I thought would make a great painting but most likely will not make it to my easel.

Coral Duo, above is easel worthy and happened by chance. I went to my favorite food mecca and ordered a snack, then chose a seat while I waited for my food to be delivered. It was then that I noticed my coral colored purse absolutely matched the roses on the table. It was so matchy-matchy, not planned and yet quite unique. As I marveled at the beautiful color before me, I wondered what were the odds of that happening in the big numbers game? As a true lover of all things coral colored, as evidenced by the color of my toenail polish, I was smitten at first glance.
As my passion for coral continues, the photo below shows a mass planting of some gorgeous Florida Spring blooming coral colored 'Fire Lilies'. These beauties are blooming about 3 weeks to a month earlier than normal because of the hot dry weather and lots of extra water and a little plant food.

My last coral colored obsession for the day is this oil painting of a hibiscus flower. Georgia O'Keeffe would have been proud. One cannot walk into the room and miss this mass of bright color on an orange wall.
Painting by Marilyn Brown, oil 58x58"
Moving on, I am not sure if my blog will replace my newsletter or be an addition to it. Only time will tell but I suspect some months it will replace the blog and other times it will be supplemental. My March Newsletter will be replaced by this blog.
